Design Activism Workshop Gathering #3 __Climate Control Wars, speculative fictions and collaborative dinner

Performative Design Game hosted by Grace Turtle and a Co-Created Dinner hosted by Greer Rochford

Grace Turtle hosted located version of 'Automated Control Wars' a game of performative design fictions. "We designed a workshop, open to the public, focused on a Performative Design Game (PDG) we called Automated Control Wars, inspired by the work of Cathy O’Neil surrounding her book Weapons of Maths Destruction, designed to 'un-black-box' the complex political and social issues surrounding culture, control and computability.

Participants engaged in the performative strategic war game, assuming the roles of fascists, anarchists, capitalists and nomads. In their quest for domination, they collectively  'un-black-boxed' the complex political and social issues surrounding algorithmic culture, control and computability. This workshop is an example of the tactics we use to tap into the collective intelligence of alien-kin to tackle politicised issues impacting our daily lives, from climate change to data sovereignty."

Greer Rochford hosted a collaborative and experimental dinner, created for this gathering, inspired by her artist residency in Oaxaca, Mexico, where she played with ideas around collectively made food experiences "...this dinner, part performance and part ritual, will seek to transform food from mere fuel to into powerful objects with transformative powers and play with potentialities that emerge within this contact zone of food, art and design. Using hands and intuition, everyone at the table will have an active role in creating the meal together- dissolving the usual hierarchy of the kitchen/restaurant dynamic."
